Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins is the Stefon Diggs Trade on Steroids

Adam Schefter couldn't go more than 24 hours without dropping another bomb on us. Another superstar was moved on Wednesday, as Tyreek Hill was traded to the Miami Dolphins for 5 draft picks, including a 2022 1st and a 2nd round pick. As part of the deal, Tyreek signed a 4-year, $120 million extention. WOW. I think this is a win-win deal for both teams and is similar to the Stefon Diggs trade, when the Vikings sent Diggs to the Bills in exhange for a 1st round pick (which became Justin Jefferson).

What this means for the Dolphins:

The Dolphins may have won the off-season. After signing Terron Armstead yesterday, their offense is looking pretty loaded. They have Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Cedrick Wilson, DeVante Parker (for now), Raheem Mostert and Chase Edmonds, leaving Tua Tagovailoa with no excuses this year. They also signed Teddy Bridgewater, and I'd bet my life we are going to see him start at least 1 game this year. New head coach Mike McDaniels will probably give Tua one year to make this work, because this offense really sets him up for success.

The ideal scenario for the Dolphins is that Tyreek fully unlocks Tua and allows him to bring his game to new heights. The Bills traded for Stefon Diggs before Josh Allen's third NFL season. The Cowboys traded for Amari Cooper during Dak's third season. Plus, how can you not mention the Cardinals getting Kyler Deandre Hopkins after his rookie year. One of the best things a team can do for their young quarterback is to give them an established star receiver, and in Year 3 Tua will have the best arsenal of weapons since he was at Alabama and won the Heisman Trophy. If he doesn't make a significant leap this year, the Dolphins will be looking for a new quarterback in 2023.

What this means for the Chiefs:

The Chiefs are a worse team than they were this morning. Tyreek Hill is a top 3 wide receiver in the NFL, and you don't trade away a player like that and immediately improve. However, this Chiefs made this trade for the future. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid aren't

going anywhere. If they had resigned Tyreek, they would have an immense amount of money tied up in the trio of Tyreek, Kelce and Mahomes. The past two seasons (especially the Bucs Super Bowl) have shown us that Mahomes cannot do it by himself. This move opens up a ton of cap space and gives them draft picks to improve the roster. At least 1 of their 2 first round picks needs to be a receiver, and we've seen rookie receivers like Ja'Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle and Justin Jefferson have historic rookie years right out of college. How they use these picks will determine the success or failure of this trade, but I think it was a good deal for both teams.
